Did anyone catch this? It's absolutely cracking me up. I wish Orson did more comedy, his timing is great...

If you missed it, it's on tomorrow (2/12) at 10 AM CST...

i see Paramount Home Video are releasing a I Love Lucy DVD collection starting with Season 1, but as one reviewer on Amazon points out:

"These DVD's Contain only 4 episodes per disc when there are 35 shows per season, that adds to 10 dvd's per season.
The show was on for 6 or 7 years now thats 60 to 70 DVD's in the end. "

Seeing as the episode "Lucy Meets Orson Welles" is in the sixth season i guess it'll be a while before i get to import it to the UK!

Incidentally i've never seen an episode of I Love Lucy, but i hear nothing but good things about it...

atb,
max!

If you've seen a few episodes of Lucy, you've seen them all, in my own humble opinion. The show basically revolves around the wacky hijinks of Lucy. The Welles episode has Lucy wanting to "join the act" at husband Ricky's club (a running gag, since Lucy is apparently talentless), and she proceeds to make an ass of herself. Welles is pretty good in the show, and the show thankfully doesn't waste time on fat jokes or "look at the nutty has-been genius" cracks. The show stands as a foundation show in sitcom history, as it should, but like most sitcoms, it wears out its welcome. Or maybe it's just not to my sense of humor, which runs to stuff like Monty Python and The League of Gentlemen.

..................

the dean martin's friars roast tapes are also available now, and there is plenty of orson there.

i'm only a fan of orson's directing, not so much his appearences, and acting. they were offering the frank sinatra roast as the introductory tape for 10 bucks, which i was going to order, but it's one of those arm twisting deals where you get frank for 10, but you gotta buy all the others for 20, and they arrive every month, month after month, after month. who the heck wants to see the cherles nelson reily roast. seems it would be difficult to make jokes around that one.

I agree with Jeff's assessment of the show. Lucy's "zany hijinks" while she tries to horn in on husband Ricky's act gets old. However, I watch an episode once in a while to see how 50's sitcoms were done.

I've always liked the Orson episode, because he seemed to have less patience for the zany redhead than did most big-name guests.

Rather than buy gigantic DVD collections, if I were really into the show, I'd just tape them off the tube when they're on. I can't think of any TV show that I need a DVD set of every single episode.
