Not sure what to make of this

Postby NoFake » Sun Nov 01, 2009 12:22 am

About a quarter of the way through Chris Welles Feder's book, I came across a phrase that made me curious about Orson's legendary mother, about whom I'd already read all that's available in the bios and Welles's own Vogue magazine reminiscence (which his daughter recalls him telling her directly). So I googled "Beatrice Ives Welles," and found this:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2008/aug/29/documentary.orsonwelles

The fact that it's reported by David Thom(p)son may make a difference, or it may not, depending on your point of view. But with these few paragraphs, he manages to stir up so many ghosts... not sure what to make of it.

Does anyone have any additional information? As the article's over a year old, it may be old news to Wellesnetters, and if it's already been dissected, refuted or tossed overboard, my apologies.

You'll find the Wellesnet discussion here:

Although Thomson can't resist speculating, the gist of his article is true.

Thanks, Roger! Now I know why I missed it; I was working on a huge, time-sensitive project at the time and couldn't take the chance of being drawn into absorbing, unrelated discussions, and so steered clear of Wellesnet. I'm sorry to have re-opened a subject that had a thorough going-over some time ago, but on the other hand, I'm happy to have now had the opportunity to read the learned and engaging commentary (well, up to a certain point  ) of Wellesnetters.
