Bogdanovich and One-Man Band? - What be the deal?

Bill Krohn had this comment on the a_film_by discussion group (of which Peter Tonguette is the co-moderator):

Is this true? And if so, is it "the latest" word on the doc, or have there been any new developments?

From the Rosenbaum interview linked on Wellesnet:

LAWRENCE FRENCH: Peter Bogdanovich's new version of ONE MAN BAND is a real improvement over the original. Have you seen that yet?

JONATHAN ROSENBAUM: No, that was something else that was going to be shown on Showtime, until it was stopped by Beatrice. I'm sure it's a better version. I did see several earlier versions of it, including one while they were still editing it. I made several suggestions to them, none of which they took.

Nothing new has surfaced, but maybe with Beatrice's money troubles, this will finally escape to our screens.

At the Welles conference in Germany Oja Kodar pointed out that it was not Beatrice who stopped the airing of Bogdanovich's version but Mr. Bousheri, the producer of THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WIND. In fact Bogdanovich has changed the film by cutting out several parts and to include much more material of TOSOTW than in the original version.

Then it frankly seems even more puzzling as to stopping the screenings, since more exposure for the film would seemingly potentially earn him more money in the long run?

PETER BOGDANOVICH: SHOWTIME is still trying to work out some rights problems on THE ONE MAN BAND. There's no scheduled time for it right now. We completely re-cut it, and we added quite a bit of footage from Orson's other pictures. But I don't know when it's going to be seen myself, because they're still trying to clear some of the rights. So there is no final version of it, right now. We may have to take out some pieces, like CHIMES AT MIDNIGHT, and a few other pieces.

Q: What about Beatrice Welles and Thomas White? Are they part of the problem?

PB: That added about seven months to the process, but Showtime finally made a deal with him. So I hope it will be shown soon...

I figured, but it never ceases to amaze me, these people who think Welles projects are going to make them huge amounts of cash.
