Documentarian Albert Maysles will be presenting some of his short films, including his early 60s "Orson Welles in Spain," in Denver November 12. Anybody seen this?

Haven't seen it, but it sounds good. The Maysles Bros' GIMME SHELTER is one of the best rock movies ever made (AMC showed it recently as part of their rock film fest). And two other Maysles works SALESMAN and GREY GARDENS were recently given the Criterion treatment on DVD, so they must be pretty good. Hopefully ORSON WELLES IN SPAIN will wind up on DVD too. I believe it was part of the recent German Welles fest.

I saw ORSON WELLES IN SPAIN at the German Welles conference. Parts of it can also been seen in the Spanish documentary ORSON WELLES IN THE LAND OF DON QUIJOTE. It's a real interesting document showing Welles talking to some Spanish journalists at a bullfight arena and near a hotel. He explains the concept for his project SACRED BEASTS which later became the basis for THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WIND. Hearing Welles' explanation I understood much more how and why OSOTW was done. For example he explains why he doesn't want the actors knowing the screenplay.
