Apologies if this has been raised before, but does anyone know whether the audio-tape edition of THIS IS ORSON WELLES contains any new material not in the published version, and if so, how much?

Tonyw: My memory of the fairly recent DaCapo book/audio package is that quite bit of the tape material is different from the printed matter, and vice verse.

Since the book was based on the audio tapes made by Bogdonovich, so there's nothing new per se in the tapes. The book has many revisions/corrections of statements Welles made in the tapes (i.e., locations of places Othello was shot, etc). Generally, the tone of the book is milder than the tapes.

i have the first run of the TIOW tapes, and book.

i know i will find new material in the de capo book that is not in the first printing, but am i going to find new material in the de capo audio tapes compared to the first run audio tapes.

also, i didn't feel there were huge differences in the first run book vs. the first run audio tapes.

How can you tell which run of the tapes is first or second. Blunted you said your tapes were by de capo. The version i have is put out by Caedmon which is a division of Harper Collins and has a copyright date of 1992. Would that make mine a second run?

There is no Da Capo tape set, only the original Harper set to go with Harper's edition of the book.

The only other place I know of with material from the tapes is the French Ambersons DVD, which has extra stuff not on the tapes or in the book.

;) Thanks for these very informative replies since I'd be reluctant to pay $30 for the audio-tapes unless I knew they contained some different material from the book version, either first or second edition.
