Are there any other Welles biographies worth checking out? I've read, and thoroughly enjoyed, Bogdanovich's THis is Orson Welles and was wondering what else is out there that's credible. Any help guys?
THanks

If you do a little searching, you should come up with one of the books threads that have come and gone. Generally though, Frank Brady's Citizen Welles is considered the best of the bunch, given its even-handedness toward its subject. The books by David Thomson and Charles Higham are the worst, at least in my opinion. Callow has some good points and some bad ones. Leaming is a fun read but not necessarily to be taken seriously in many cases.

thanks I found the older post that lists them in detail. I wonder why anyone would bother with a bio if their only intention is to shoot down the subject rather than present the facts and let the reader decide?

because no news/entertainment show really cares about a fair and balanced bio. you can hear the host say, "and we'll be right back with a story on a welles bio that has welles fans in an uproar." after commercial they cut to video of wellesnet members picketing, marching up and down charles higham's front lawn.

bet you the BS kael essay that fronts the screenplay got more verbage than frank brady and his book.

but this is only my opinion
