Hello everyone!!
I saw a production of Austin Pendleton's Orson's Shadow Sunday night (if you're in the Chicago area---it just opened at the Chicago Center for the Performing Arts, will run through mid-October). It's about the 1960 London production of Rhinoceros. While it completely glosses over the mind game Olivier played on Orson, it is reasonably honest and sympathetic. Great performances, the actor playing Orson has the speech pattern down very well (but looks more like Raymond Burr than Orson). If you're not a fan, probably not very interesting---but if you are, a terrific way to spend an afternoon.

...........

how interesting that certain events in orson's life are finding their way into short films, and the stage. i don't believe i've heard of this happening in other director's lives.

it certainly sounds interesting.

That CD will definitely be worth getting. I saw Orson's Shadow onstage again yesterday and it really is a wonderful piece of chamber theatre, although I was surprised at how much the play had been rewritten since I saw it in workshop form two years ago. Made me realize what a mercurial and ephemeral artform theatre is. That's why I wish they would make some kind of video of it, tho I'm glad they've preserved it on CD.
