Quality product? - Anybody hear of VSOM?

VHS, LD, or DVD

Postby colwood » Mon Sep 01, 2003 7:01 pm

I'm hoping that I might be able to swing a trade at a later date with someone here...but in the meantime...I am very interested in finding a decent copy of the One Man Band. Ebay hasn't listed a copy in a while (not that I would definetly be able to afford it).

So I'm browsing around and I come to an outfit called Video Search of Miami, a company that distributes unreleased foreign and cult films on VHS and DVD. I search and not only are they offering the One Man Band but they are also offering All is Brazil (which I'm also intested in). I thought about ordering them, but in newsgroup postings, they don't seem to be highly regarded in terms of quality.

So, has anybody used their services and can recommend them? thanks

Actually if I had done a search here first I'd have noticed that Jeff made a mention of them (and All is Brazil) over a year ago....

They ship very fast, but quality is dicey. My copy of One Man Band came from them, and is quite watchable; All is Brazil was fine but had some weird sound fluctuation. Other things I've gotten from them were pretty bad in terms of image quality. It just depends.

I've bought from them, and one thing I'll say for the outfit is they provide their own subtitles for foreign releases (in cases where the only available master lacks them). What I bought was on video, from videos, and I wonder if the DVD-Rs they now offer aren't of much higher quality. I would expect so.

The DVD-R of JADED that I got from them was from a terrible quality print and had tons of pixelation throughout, so their DVD-Rs aren't necessarily better.

Thanks for the advice guys. I think I'm going to go ahead and order a copy of it soon.

Good to know. It's surprising to hear that, since there's really no excuse given the technology.
