walter was great. especially when he's playing over the top, like in daniel webster. you should see him in duel in the sun. the entire time he's on screen you can't help but have a big smile across your face. my friend raves about his performance in anthony mann's THE FURIES, but i have yet to see that film.

he was also great as eugene in the radio ambersons.

My favorite Walter performance is in an early, early William Wyler film called A HOUSE DIVIDED. About midway through the story his character falls off a banister in his house and breaks his back. Spends the rest of the movie using his arms to get around. But it doesn't slow him down none, no sir.

And then there's DODSWORTH, of course. Early Wyler rules.
