Good News: I met Lawrence French and Jonathan Rosenbaum a few weeks ago at a screening of TOUCH OF EVIL in San Francsico. Mr. French told me he will be sending a long interview he did with Jonathan Rosenbaum about TOUCH OF EVIL that also addressed and updates everything Rosenbaum knows about Welles unfinished works, to Jeff, that will be posted on the Wellsnet site!
Any word on when you'll be getting this interview, Jeff?
Among some interesting tidbids Rosenbaum talked about:
Welles himself wrote the famous reply to Pauline Kael, that appeared under Peter Bogdanovich's name in Esquire in 1971, THE KANE MUTINY.
Mr. Rosenbaum was in Munich twice, and said it was a very interesting experience to go through all the unfinished Welles material there for over a week. Oja Kodar has given them, or is letting them store all the uncompleted Welles films in her possession. But Rosenbaum said there is so much material, in some cases it's just scratching the surface!
For instance, they still haven't gone through every box on THE DEEP. They're still missing a lot of sound, (which they think they may have), but they haven't been able to get through everything. Also Joseph McBride in researching his upcoming Welles bio has discovered that Welles actually began shooting on THE DEEP as early as 1964, not 1968 as everyone has previously copied from McBride's first book on Welles.
