Orson Welles in Dublin

The footage discussed in the One Man Band thread appears to be the second and third reels of a filmed question and answer session with Welles onstage in Ireland. Curiously, the third reel is presented before the second, leading to a subsequent jabberwock in the conversation flow. I extracted the audio and corrected the edit. The beginning and end of the segment are absent, but this is eighteen minutes I'd never experienced before. I don't have a sense for the year more precise than the 50s or 60s, leaning towards the former. As with other all-talk Welles films, this is a good one for audio-only.

That wouldn't be bad to do, with just the two 9-minute chunks to swap. But while you're in there, software permitting, something should be done with the contrast, since Welles looks like a luminous moonface in the raw video.

According to THE UNKNOWN ORSON WELLES, this footage came from a late night evening at Dublin's Gaiety Theatre in 1960, where Welles had presented CHIMES AT MIDNIGHT.

This footage apparently was filmed after Welles read selections from MOBY DICK--REHEARSED and then answered questions from the Dublin audience, one member of whom seemed to be especially belligerent towards the fact that Welles had dared to make such a "bad" version of OTHELLO!

That poor Irishman clearly had too much whiskey to drink that night, as he continues to heckle Welles long after he has already agreed to his dubious argument about OTHELLO being badly received in Dublin.
