..................

yeap, a beautiful woman in a hawks film gets a bullet hole, and acts in a brave, admirable manner, hawks the wolf is lurking in the b.g. of her rising star. look at how lovingly he photographed that woman, wife of the wounded revolutionary in TO HAVE AND HAVE NOT. in her scenes, she looks alluring, breathtakingly beautiful. i'm sure this attention and care didn't come to her without a price.

james cann in a playboy interview said during filming EL DORADO hawks and wayne had streams of young, beautiful women coming in and out of their trailers. he said hawks and wayne were like 2 big kids on the set. must be nice to have millions, and fame, huh?

and cann also said that hawks thought nothing of closing down the set for 3 days to rework dialogue. he said he had not seen that before, or since. now that is power. 100 man crew sitting around waiting on hawks and wayne to be happy with the lines.

that would make a good movie.
Hawks like lothario director gets his commeupance when one of his starlets becomes bigger than he is. sort of like 20th century for the 21st century

..............

you mean like von sternberg/deitrich?

i have not heard that expression in years, "lothario director', but yes, hawks, and von sternberg, and i'm sure many more fit that.

films are so expensive today that you would never have that; a woman getting a major part in a film because she had sex with the directer. now if she's HAVING sex with the director, yes, that does happen, but not with a one night stand chippie. unless i was directing.

I was thinking more of Bogdanovich / Shepard

i just have to ask:

why does it take until the hero in the movie sees his partner, or loved one, injured or killed before using his kickass strength?

he starts off getting his ass kicked, but in the end, kicks-ass

bye now!

i have a hard time assigning the word LOTHARIO to bogdanovich. he's more like an intellectual geek. though having a VON in your name facilitates the word LOTHARIO being affixed somewhere near you.

peter VON bogdanovich? nah.

erich VON, josef VON; LOTHARIO. fits.

did p. bogdanovich attempt lothario-ism on sheppard's carreer? she wasn't in other director's films while she was with PB? she could clearly kick his butt if she wanted to, she looked a lot stronger than he did. i like PB a lot now. he's on my favorite TV show playing a psychiatrist

I see overlaps between Orson and Peter B. and your remark about Hawks brought PB & Hawks to mind:

Orson and Peter B.
When Orson's star had faded, he stayed at Peter B.'s place, when PB was hot. When PB's star faded, he had to stay with Tarantino. Each of them went from wunderkind to has been.

PB makes a lot of his interviews etc. with Hawks. What's up Doc is my favorite comedy and PB told Hawks it was a remake of Bringing up Baby. Hawks's best comedy (and my second favorite) was 20th Century. Barrymore plays a Broadway director who falls for his young discovery, and then she surpasses him. Like PB and Shepard
