Widescreen Welles - which r available in WS + quality

Postby Sir Bygber Brown » Sat Dec 20, 2003 8:48 am

Saw great widescreen image in restored Touch of Evil. Does Ws exist for Shanghai, for example? Is it like Sergio Leone? Is there a lot of the image we miss in fullscreen? Is the widescreen image great for other Welles movies?
You may remember me from such sites as imdb, amazon and criterionforum as Ben Cheshire.

Welles' never filmed a scope production, and anything before Touch of Evil was composed for Academy Ratio, or 1.37:1. If you're interested in the Touch of Evil widescreen discussion, look for past conversations on the board with the search function. The topic has been chewed over more than once, and isn't worth getting into again, given the level of antagonism it created in the past.

Hmmm....The Spanish DVD release of Falstaff is in at least moderate widescreen (not quite 1.85:1-maybe 1.66:1?)
