that was good. i keep thinking of seeing the movie.

but it wouldn't be the same. it wouldn't feel the same.

when i heard the sound of mr. deeds hitting that guy in the courtroom, it was like hearing mr. welles hitting somebody that deserved it.

and in his lifetime, mr. welles had plenty that deserved it.

bye now!

This was an enjoyable show, but was hurt to a certain extent by Welles in the role of Longfellow Deeds. Welles could play any number of roles, but the genial rube was not among his repertoire. On occasion, he comes close to pulling it off, but at other times, it just doesn't sound right.

Haven't had a chance to hear the Mercury's show yet, but I just saw the Frank Capra film for the first time yesterday. With the exception of IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE, this is probably the best Capra film I've seen. Don't know about Welles as Longfellow Deeds, but it's definitely a role that Gary Cooper was born to play. I'm sure Jimmy Stewart could have done it too, but I guess he did a variation of it in other Capra films.

I doubt Stewart is a patch on the unsurpassable Adam Sandler...

Unsurpassably moronic, you mean? Actually, The Waterboy was funnier then I expected, but then my expectations were zilch. I've seen snippets from a couple of his other movies, and I think I'll take a pass, including his Mr. Deeds.

I can't think of any reason why they decided to remake "Mr Deeds" with Adam Sandler other than to try and give him some new kind of credibility.
