How to celebrate?

Welles' friends and family, business dealings, beliefs, etc.

how would one usually celebrate the 87th birthday of a favorite actor?

can't visit or put flowers on his grave. he doesn't have one.

my little thing would be to round up members of the fan club, find someone related, or close friend of his, go to a restaurant, watch his movies, have the time of our lives, have pictures of his enemies on the wall to through darts at, drink til we drop, if you choose to, and go home. having the sober ones do the drivin', of course.

then, when we wake with our hangovers, if any, come posting everything that happened to the ones who didn't make it to the party the night before.

simple and satisfying.

i think!?

oh well!

if not, just send greeting card to newspapers. all signed. wonderful picture, great article, no mention of certain people.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ORSON!
LOVE YA', BABE!
MISS YA!

bye now!

THE EXISTENTIALIST/GREAT DIRECTOR'S STRIP BAR:

KAFKA'S BIRTHDAY: free pool, 2-4-1 drafts, the girls will strip to dramatic readings of AMERIKA

SATRE'S BIRTHDAY: valium and beer night! 2-4-1 drafts, free buffet, and valiums for every one.

WELLES' BIRTHDAY: 1/2 price personal dances, no sports, only welles' shakespeare films on the tvs. gary graver will be on hand to get personal dances, and not talk about welles.

but seriously, it's welles' birthday coming up and i have not seen tcm, or any other classic film station anounce welles day.

did any one see the mickey spilane/aldrich film, forgot the name, it was on turner in lbx. i missed taping it. i saw the last half, makes a huge difference.

TCM, for Welles birthday, is running Kane and Ambersons today, and Journey Into Fear and The Stranger later in the month. Of course, that's all for the novice Welles fan, not for hardcore OW junkies like us.

Also, they're running the 1937 documentary The Spanish Earth on the 26th. They list both Hemingway and Welles as the narrator, so I guess they want to keep us guessing as to which version it is. This is the film where Hemingway was dissatisfied with Welles' "c***sucker swallowing" narration and redid it himself. Anyone ever see it?

I say play his radio shows and try to act out all the parts.

Then play his films and try to act out all the parts.

And then late at night, when the lights are low and the jazz is playing softly in the background, make out with his picture that you bought off of barewalls.com.

Kidding of course...or am I? :D

Yes. TCM has always shown the Hemingway version. Does an OW narration still exist?
