Source the Quote

Welles' friends and family, business dealings, beliefs, etc.

I need some help in sourcing this quote:

"Welles at twenty-six is still trying to outdo Welles at six"

I'm off on the exact wording, but the 26-6 part is the gist of it. I know I've read it somewhere, and I just cannot find it. Does anybody here remember who it's from or which Welles book quotes it?

Thanks,
jb

Are you sure it isn't Welles at 46 trying to outdo Welles at 26 (ie, when he made Kane?) Throughout Leaming's bio, but in one particular place, she quotes Welles as saying he was always in competition with the man who made Citizen Kane. Watchu tink?
You may remember me from such sites as imdb, amazon and criterionforum as Ben Cheshire.

no, i'm sure it was 26 and 6, or thereabouts. I think it was made around the time of Kane, and it was pointedly about Welles having always being told he was a genius as a child. And I believe the quote was a quip from someone within Welles circle, as opposed to an attack on him from the outside.
