pictures of Orson Welles

Welles' friends and family, business dealings, beliefs, etc.

My thanks to you all for illuminating the "brothel" shot.

I have a suggestion for our Webmaster, Jeff Wilson. Would it be possible to copy all the photos in this thread, identify them by label or caption and then save them in a permanent folder, called something like Photo Gallery, which would become another resource on this web site? It would be great if both Wellesnet members and visiting guests could click on "Photo Gallery" -- or whatever you would call it -- and see all these terrific shots of the Many Faces of Orson Welles. Perhaps there would even be some way for members to contribute additional photos they might find. Just an idea which occurred to me since this thread has become so visually rich and enjoyable.

Yeah, that could be done. It probably won't get done right away, but it shouldn't be a problem.

Fredric, I am fascinated to see the photo you posted of the billboard advertising Findus Fish Fingers and the man hired to endorse them, Orson Welles. No doubt you and others on the board have heard the famous outtakes during the taping of the commercial Welles did for Findus Fish Fingers. Until this moment, though, I never saw the product or what it looked like. Am I correct in assuming the billboard was photographed somewhere in London?

Jeff Wilson, A million thanks in advance for making all these photos a permanent part of Wellesnet. Of course, I understand, as I am sure we all do, how very busy you are but it is wonderful to know that eventually, when you have the time, the job will be done.

Again, my personal thanks and appreciation for all you have done and continue to do to enhance the legacy of Orson Welles.

That site the fish fingers billboard came from usually does joke, grossout, and prank material, and I would imagine the billboard is a Photoshop-created gag.

Does anyone know when/where the pic of Orson in a black t-shirt was taken, and who is that with him?

Also, the pic with Eartha Kitt is terrific; must be around the time of "Time Runs".

Thanks for the photos!

Can I ask the posters who have linked directly to someone else's site to please copy the photos and save them to their own site or photo account (at photobucket or imageshack or what have you)? I doubt some of these sites will appreciate having bandwidth leeched each time someone clicks on this thread. Thanks.

The man standing left to Welles is Rene Clair, the picture was taken in 1948.
The photo with Eartha Kitt and MacLiammoir was taken during the tour of "An Evening with Orson Welles" in Germany in August 1950.

I found one with Vivien Leigh and Lawrence Olivier....

Unfortunately, it is too small :( but he looks great in this picture...
