Welles as Batman?

Topics that do not fit any other category

Saw this linked on Home Theater Forum, and found it rather amusing, though I've never heard of "movie critic and respected film historian" Lionel Hutton, and saw several errors, which leads me to the conclusion that it's a clever gag.

We Welles Snobs Would Have Hated This

Now there seems to be a small furor over this at Ain't It Cool News, which is generally about as reliable as an issue of the Inquirer

It only proves that, yet again, Harry Knowles is the biggest tool on the web.

the fact that a google search for a 'Lionel Hutton' comes up empty handed provides more evidence that this is just a comic-book geek's wild dream -- and I've still got all my 1970s Spidermans under the bed... The supposed author of the biography, due easter, has a name which sounds very much like one of the best screwball characters from the simpsons, Lionel Hutz, attorney. I do like the casting, tho. Can't imagine that Cagney, who loved turning parts down, would want to wear the green tights of the Riddler...

Fact is this story predates the first appearance of the Riddler...but that's not the point.

This fairly well crafted farce is stirring up quite a lot of muck on the web. Of course it is totally bogus...in fact it is quite humorous. Welles at the first comic book convention??? :p

Although not completely out of the question I found it to be a nice touch.

It's stirring up a lot of people offline, too. Standing outside of the NYU Tisch School of the Arts building earlier this evening, I overheard an excited youngster telling a half dozen friends about the "news," in great detail, and they were just eating it up.

Sheesh.

An interesting tidbit from the introduction to Batman Archive Vol.1-

"...the artwork's composition would draw on innovative camera angles in the work of filmmakers like Orson Welles... the Batman team, who bought so many tickets to watch Citizen Kane that they could recite dialouge while sitting at their drawing boards...
