Whatever happened to "What Ever Happened to Orson Welles? : A Portrait of an Independent Career" by Joseph McBride? amazon.com still lists it as publication date January 1, 1975 yet it is a new book and was supposed to be out before the end of last year. Is this still coming out?

Actually, I don't think "What Ever Happened To Orson Welles?" was ever scheduled for publication before the spring of this year. Mr. McBride told me himself last year that the book would be coming out sometime in 2006. The Tiburon Film Festival, which Mr. McBride is moderating parts of, kicks off tomorrow, and I noticed the on-line program offers a plug for the Welles book stating it will be "available in 2006".

As an aside, I've often wondered why Amazon uses those odd release dates ("Jan. 1st, 1975") when an actual date hasn't been announced. Does "TBD" just not cut it?

Amazon has the previously announced edition for $15.57, but the Kentucky UP edition has no discount at the moment. The reviews are definitely glowing, though. Look forward to reading it.
