Gordon,

I like your suggestion that Wellesnetters brainstorm on the subject of where to hold the next OW retrospective in the U.S., but perhaps we should start a new thread on this topic? Since it was your good idea, I'm leaving it up to you.

OK, Here's the idea: Suggest a venue in the United States to Host the 2008 Welles Triennial. Give the reasons that your suggestion should be considered. DO NOT CRITICIZE ANOTHER POTENTIAL VENUE. The idea of this process is to give as many ideas as possible a hearing without someone shooting them down before they have a chance to be heard.

I might suggest Traverse City, MI where a Welles retrospective could be tied into Michael Moore's Traverse Film Festival. The festival just completed it's second year with a tribute to Kubrick complete with a showing of all of his work from 1956 - 1999 and a roundtable discussion with Jan Harlan, Matthew Modine and Malcolm McDowell.

Hi Gordon,

I didn't realize you had started this thread and I made my suggestions on the other one on this topic.

Thank you, Christopher for putting this topic in motion.

I would like to add my voice to those who have advocated for Toronto.

Even if we cannot access the full range of films that were shown in Locarno, and will presumably be shown at the 2008 Triennial, we will still have a North American venue where we can meet and discuss topics such as Don Quixote, forming a North American based supporting organization for Welles and other topics. Is there a University in Toronto that could co-sponsor? I do not know if Canadian intellectual property law incorporates the U.S. concept of "Fair Use", but if it does, a university tie-in would be helpful as a defense against the Dark Arts.

Yea Toronto!!

There are 3 universities in Toronto:

The University of Toronto
York University
Ryerson University

There is also the Canadian Centre for Advanced Film Studies, a school started by Norman Jewison.
