Welles living at the Garden of Allah on Sunset Blvd

I read something recently which said that Welles lived at the Garden of Allah (the hotel/apartment block at Sunset and Laurel Canyon) during the 1940s. Does anyone have any more specific dates than "during the 1940s"?
