I recently found a link to "The Paris Interview" (which is also available on DVD) on SnagFilms, where you can watch the entire interview, legally and for free.

Thank you so very much, Jay. You know I may be some kind of charter subscriber to Snag Film. They certainly made me think so, but I never thought to search for Orson Welles there. Dumb!

My memory was that I'd seen the Paris Review piece earlier. I had not.

As it turns out, now, using their "search," I discover that they also have a CBS tribute to Norman Corwin, who recently passed, as noted here. "Corwin" is loaded with pictures of the second great master of Radio directing many of the actors with whom Welles worked. It begins with Corwin apparently directing him in 1941's "We Hold These Truths."

What a pity,but this website seems only to be available stateside. I tried to watch the interview,but kept getting the message that it was not available to stream in my area.

Yes, unfortunately, a lot of sites have regional streaming restrictions. If you can find another way of watching it, though, you definitely should. (If you're tech-savvy about these things, you can mask your IP address and make websites think that you're operating from a U.S. IP location. You can find instructions on how to do this in various dark corners of the internet.) Welles is in great form throughout, talking about a wide range of subjects, including the fact that he almost ran for Senator of Wisconsin but ultimately decided against it. Guess who ended up winning that Senate seat? Joseph McCarthy! Just one of the many great moments of the interview.

Also, you can make a drinking game out of this interview--every time Welles re-lights his cigar, take a shot!

It's an Australian broadcaster's site, but it allowed me to watch it from the UK.
