Scarlet Street Magazine's Orson Welles Message Board is worth checking out. It's at http://pub4.ezboard.com/fscarle....stop=20
(Mention is made of Welles' rumoured involvement in directing The Thing from Another World.)

Interesting discussion; they also touch on Jess Franco's claim to have directed parts of the battle sequence from CHIMES AT MIDNIGHT. I'd never heard that before.

The notion that Welles directed parts of THE THING is possible, but doubtful. Welles did admire Hawks though, and in the new book of Welles interviews claimed that he wrote about 25 minutes (or nearly a third) of Hawks' I WAS A MALE WAR BRIDE, which just happens to be on TCM tonight at 9:30 pm CST.

.................

i also had read about welles writing part of MWB, then later i saw the script in the welles collection at lily.

i also never heard of franco directing battle scenes in CHIMES. after seeing uncle joe's strangulation, the closet whipping in the trial, do we beleive the battle scene was directed by franco? i don't. in the rutgers CHIMES book keith baxter gives an incredible interview about the filming. baxter was there before the begining and after the end.

that's a cool looking board. but my hats off CBANKS for his old welles board, i really loved the architecture there. and my hat is off to jeff wilson for keeping this board like a clean bathroom. it always smells nice in here.

happy new year to all.
