Voyager Othello in DVD-R format! - "Trade" for commentary copies..?

Most regrettably, my laserdisc has no remote, thereby denying me access to the analog channels on which reside the two commentaries recorded for this legendary Voyager disc.

If anyone is in a position to share those commentaries with me in some audio format (on a CD that could be played along with the movie itself, perhaps), I believe a trade re this version of the film - in a more accessible format - could be worked out. Let me know.

I have a copy of the commentary by Peter Bogdanovich, Myron Meisel, and Russ Lees on audio tape. I'm in the process of converting my hundreds of hours of Welles tapes into MP3s and could put that on a CD if you like.

Okay. I've completed all my other recording chores and filled 16 CDs with Orson MP3s, so I'll record that commentary track next. Shouldn't be long at all, actually. Okay, I'll start now - I haven't listened to it in a long time, and my tape deck is still hooked up to the computer.

Of course, Kevin. It's a stunning work that no Welles enthusiast should miss in as close a form to the original as is still accessible.

But now the threads here are referring to a "European (French?) print" of the film that is even more polished. I haven't had much time to chase down more information on that, yet; but I am relishing the pursuit.

In the interest of privacy and discretion, let me suggest we use the Messenger here or other means to continue this discussion.

What LD player do you have? If it is a Pioneer, my understanding is that any Pioneer LD remote will work. You can usually buy one on ebay for not that much money. The other option is to buy a programable remote and learn from someone else's remote.

I realize you are only trying to get the audio track but it seems a waste to not utilize all the functions of your player.

And it's a good thing, too: that commentary track is one excellent piece of work and is well-deserving of its legendary status.

Adding to this discussion, I'd like to say that working with two copies of the LD version, I've finally managed to put together a DVD (w/menu) of the film and commentary. I'm designing a cover at the moment and tweaking the DVD menu a bit (and trying to decide what 'extras' to include).

It was a real pain and a lot of work, and ultimately the film audio on the commentary track is about half a second off-sync -- the two different sources had slightly different running times and I had to do a fair bit of audio editing -- which I guess doesn't matter much. Much working with numerous file formats and straining the poor old computer ensued, but it was for the learning curve and my own enjoyment. I am happy to share with anyone interested, though.

(Format is Region 0 NTSC, BTW.)
