Two celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of Orson Welles’ birth kick off this month in France.
The Orson Welles Retrospective at the Institut Lumiere from June 3 to July 12 in Lyon features a dozen Welles-directed efforts including The Immortal Story, F For Fake and Mr. Arkadin.
The retrospective will also screen two recent documentaries This Is Orson Welles and Orson Welles, autopsie dune légende.
The Orson Welles Celebration will take place in Paris at the Cinematheque Francaise from June 17 to Aug. 2.
The celebration features rare unseen unfinished films from the Munich Film Museum and lectures from French scholars. Rare footage scheduled to be screened includes an interview Welles conducted with longtime friend and mentor Roger Hill, footage from the never-completed thriller The Deep and the unsold pilot for The Orson Welles Show.
