Acclaimed Spanish actress Amparo Rivelles died on November 7 in her native Madrid. She was 88.
Rivelles portrayed Baroness Nagel in the Spanish version of Orson Welles’ 1955 film “Mr. Arkadin.” In other versions of the movie, the role of Baroness Nagel was played by Suzanne Flon.
She also appeared as herself in “Orson Welles in the Land of Don Quixote,” a travelogue series about Spain filmed by Welles in the early 1960s.
In the years following “Mr. Arkadin,” Rivelles moved to Mexico, where she spent 20 years working in Mexican films and telenovelas.
During a lengthy and distinguished acting career, Rivelles was awarded Spain’s National Theater Prize and the Goya Award for Best Actress.
Rivelles was the daughter of actors Rafael Rivelles and María Fernanda Ladrón de Guevara, and the half-sister of actor Carlos Larrañaga.
