Following its premiere at the Newport Beach Film Festival in California on October 20, Danny Wu’s documentary on Orson Welles and the U.S. politics of the 1930s and ’40s will be shown at the Austin Film Festival.

Wu (My Life in China During a Pandemic, Square One: Michael Jackson) told Wellesnet his documentary will span Welles’ life from his days at the Todd School for Boys in Woodstock, Illinois, to arriving in Hollywood to direct Citizen Kane to his decision to leave for Europe during in the late 1940s. It is centered on his life and U.S. politics.

American will feature a collection of stories leading to the year 1947, one of which details Welles’ crusade to bring to justice the police officer who blinded Black serviceman Isaac Woodard.
