Orson Welles Over Europe — the documentary hosted and written by Simon Callow a decade ago — will be rebroadcast by BBC Four on Wednesday, September 25, and then available on BBC i-player.
The nearly hour-long documentary originally aired on December 27, 2009 and was rebroadcast only a few times thereafter.
“It got rather lost in the Christmas schedule but is not I think & hope without interest,” Callow tells us via Twitter.
Callow’s documentary focused on Welles’ self-imposed European exile and includes comments from Peter Sallis (Moby Dick Rehearsed) and Keith Baxter (Chimes at Midnight). It was directed by Hans Petch and produced by Alan Campbell.
While living in Europe, Welles worked in film (Othello), theater (Moby Dick Rehearsed), television (Orson Welles Sketch Book) and radio (Adventures of Harry Lime).
Callow is presently at work on the fourth and final volume in Welles biography series.
