Film Forum Repertory Artistic Director Bruce Goldstein had an engaging talk with Beatrice Welles, the youngest daughter of Orson Welles, for the New York movie theater’s podcast series.
She first appeared at Film Forum in 2016 for the re-release of her father’s Chimes at Midnight and has done subsequent talks with Goldstein.
During the 19-minute podcast, Beatrice talked about growing up with her father and her Italian mother, Paola Mori. She shares her memories of being a 5-year-old on the set of The Trial and talks lovingly of its stars Anthony Perkins and Jeanne Moreau and her father’s interest in the Kafka tale.
A new 4K restoration of The Trial starring Perkins, Moreau, Romy Schneider and Welles himself, is now playing at Film Forum through December 22 before Goldstein’s Rialto Pictures takes it nationwide.
The restored The Trial had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May.
The restoration from the original 35mm negative was presented by StudioCanal and the Cinémathèque française. The 4K image and sound restoration work was completed at the Immagine Ritrovata Laboratory (Paris-Bologne). The French fashion house Chanel underwrote the cost of the restoration.
