Peter Bogdanovich, Joseph McBride and Henry Jaglom are among the panelists speaking at Chapman University in Orange, California, on Sept. 11 in an event tied to the centennial of Orson Welles’ birth.
The panel will feature “the top Wellesians in the world,” said Harry Ufland, professor of film and media arts in Chapman’s Dodge College of Film and Media Arts, who arranged for the screening and the discussion.
“Each of our panelists had very close and personal friendships with Welles,” Ufland added.
Julia and Clara Kuperberg, the filmmakers of the recent documentary This is Orson Welles, will be joined by screenwriter F.X. Feeney, author of Orson Welles: Power, Heart and Soul, and actor Peter Jason, who – like Bogdanovich, McBride and Jaglom – appeared in Welles’ still-unfinished The Other Side of the Wind.
The evening will begin at 7 p.m. with a screening of This is Orson Welles in the Folino Theater, followed by the panel discussion and Q&A session.
Bogdanovich, a celebrated director, has penned several books on film, including This Is Orson Welles, which he co-wrote with the late filmmaker.
McBride, a noted film historian, is the author of 17 books, including Orson Welles and What Ever Happened to Orson Welles?: A Portrait of an Independent Career.
