Eartha Kitt movie biography in the works

Eartha Kitt
Eartha Kitt and Orson Welles
A biopic of Eartha Kitt – described as “the most exciting woman in the world” by Orson Welles – is in pre-production.

Zoe Saldana (Star Trek) is reportedly in talks to play the beautiful barrier-breaking black entertainer. (Saldana will soon be seen in an upcoming film biography about Nina Simone).

Welles gave Kitt her first starring role – Helen of Troy in his staging of Time Runs, an adaptation of Faust.

She was romatically linked to Welles, cosmetics magnate Charles Revson and banking heir John Barry Ryan III. She was married to Bill McDonald, a real-estate developer, from 1960 to 1965.

Baby boomers remember Kitt best for her role as Catwoman on the campy Batman television series in the mid 1960s and the holiday hit song Santa Baby.

The talented actress-singer-dancer’s career nose-dived in the late 1960s because of her statements against the Vietnam War.

At a White House luncheon on crime and juvenile delinquency in 1968. Kitt told lady Bird Johnson “You send the best of this country off to be shot and maimed. No wonder the kids rebel and take pot.”

Kitt died from colon cancer on Christmas Day in 2008.
