Florence Orson Welles retrospect in final weeks

Orson Welles – Deception, Unfilmed Dreams and Screen Revolution — a three-month film retrospective — is entering its final weeks at Cinema La Compagnia in Florence, Italy.

The chronological series of Welles-directed films began on September 15 with a screening of Citizen Kane. The weeks that followed included showings of The Magnificent Ambersons, The Stranger, The Lady from Shanghai, Macbeth, Othello and Confidential Report.

The series continues tonight with The Trial at 9 p.m.

Chimes at Midnight will be screened on December 15 with The Immortal Story  shown on December 22. The retrospective concludes a week later with F for Fake on December 29.

All films will be screened in their original language with Italian subtitles.

Cinema La Compagnia has served as a hub for film festivals in Florence and Tuscany.  It opened in 1921 under the name Cinema Modernissimo.

The cinema has hosted a wide variety of films: recent releases, arthouse offerings, international cinema (often in original language), restorations, classic movies, and documentaries.
