TheatreWorks New Milford will present a free staged reading of Rosebud: The Lives of Orson Welles starring Kevin Sosbe on Wednesday, September 30.

Mark Jenkins’ play, narrated by Welles, takes the audience through the celebrated filmmaker’s childhood; his life as an actor, director, and producer; and involvement with a host of notables, including publisher William Randolph Hearst, second wife Rita Hayworth and FBI chief J. Edgar Hoover.

“I think the audience will enjoy the show because it’s a great night of storytelling,” Sosbe told Broadway World. “There’s inside information revealed, and it paints a more complete picture of Welles that most of us weren’t aware. Rosebud follows his triumphs and tragedies and portrays Orson Welles with humor and humanity.”

Sosbe, who has appeared several TheatreWorks productions, is an adjunct professor in the Western Connecticut State University Theatre Arts program and works behind-the-scenes at Westport Country Playhouse.

The performance of Rosebud is timed to mark the 100th anniversary of Welles’ birth and the 30th anniversary of his passing.

The cost of the reading is free, but reservations are recommended.

Tickets can be acquired online at theatreworks.us or by calling the box office at (860) 350-6863.

An award-winning, non-Equity theatre company, TheatreWorks was named Best Community Theater in Connecticut by Connecticut Magazine.

TheatreWorks is located on 5 Brookside Avenue, just off Route 202 in New Milford, Connecticut.
