‘Four Men on a Raft’ composer Jorge Arriagada dies at 81

Jorge Arriagada, the French-Chilean film composer best known for his longstanding collaboration with director Raoul Ruiz, died on October 8. He was 81.

He provided the score for the reconstructed Four Men on A Raft, which was part of the 1993 Bill Khrone and Myron Meisel documentary It’s All True: Based on an Unfinished Film by Orson Welles. Welles scholar Jonathan Rosenbaum suggested that Khrone hire Arriagada to score the film.

A soundtrack album, It’s All True (Music From An Unfinished Film By Orson Welles) was released in 1993.

Arriagada studied composition and orchestral conducting at the National Conservatory of Music in Santiago. He worked primarily in the film industry, composing music for more than 160 movies since 1977, including 47 films directed by Ruiz.
