‘Magician: The Astonishing Life and Work of Orson Welles’ documentary to debut this weekend

Chuck Workman’s much-anticipated documentary Magician: The Astonishing Life and Work of Orson Welles will debut at the Telluride Film Festival this weekend.

The Colorado festival will also show the long-lost footage from Welles’ 1938 stage show Too Much Johnson at the Labor Day weekend event. The footage was discovered and restored last fall.

Magician, which was partially filmed in Welles’ adopted hometown of Woodstock, Illinois, includes clips ranging from his experimental short Hearts of Age, shot when he was a teen, to the still-unfinished The Other Side of the Wind. Television appearances and commercials are also included.

Magicianfeatures interviews with Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, Peter Bogdanovich and Richard Linklater (Me and Orson Welles).

Workman has won accolades for his work, His 1986 film Precious Images won an Academy Award for Live Action Short Film. His films havebeen nominated for Emmy, Sundance Film Festival, and Taos Talking Film Festival awards.

The 41st Telluride Film Festival is presented by the National Film Preserve.
