Mercury Theatre actor Arthur Anderson, 91, will star in a Quicksilver Radio Theater live production on December 6 at St. Rita’s Roman Catholic Church in Meiers Corners, New York.

Anderson will recreate his role as The Ghost of Christmas Past from Orson Welles’ December 23, 1938 Mercury Theater radio production of “A Christmas Carol.” According to the Staten Island Advance, the performance will mark the former Staten Islander’s first performance in his native borough in three-quarters of a century.

The suggested donation is $10 for adults and $5 for children. For information, contact the parish office located at 61 Wellbrook Avenue by calling (718) 698-3746.

In addition to “A Christmas Carol,” Anderson’s other radio roles for the Mercury Theatre on the Air and Campbell Playhouse included Jim Hawkins in “Treasure Island,” Billy The Post Boy in “The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes” and Clarence Day in “Life with Father.” (Check out the Wellesnet Radio Page to hear some of Anderson’s work).

Anderson appeared in Welles’ production of “Caesar” on Broadway. The character of Richard Samuels, played by Zac Efron in the film “Me and Orson Welles,” was loosely based on Anderson. However, Anderson was not fired by Welles and continued to work with the Merucry.

Fifteen years later, Anderson had a role in the CBS Omnibus television production of “King Lear” with Welles on October 18, 1953.

Anderson was also a performer on radio’s”Let’s Pretend” for nearly two decades, and the voice of the Lucky Charms Leprechaun for nearly three decades.
