Netflix is pitching the Morgan Neville documentary They’ll Love Me When I’m Dead for Emmy Award consideration.
The entertaining documentary looks at the making of Orson Welles’ The Other Side of the Wind.
There has been no indication yet that the streaming giant will pitch the Welles feature or Ryan Suffern’s informative documentary short, A Final Cut for Orson, for Emmy consideration. The latter has been treated as a red-headed stepchild by Netflix.
Neither They’ll Love Me When I’m Dead nor The Other Side of the Wind received a single Academy Award nomination following Netflix’s Oscar campaign last year.
A special For Your Emmy Consideration DVD screener has been produced by Netflix and sent to voters. It touts the film for best documentary or non-fiction special (producers Neville, Korelan Matteson, Josh Karp and Filip Jan Rymsza), director (Neville), editor (Jason Zeldes and Aaron Wickenden), narration (Alan Cummings), cinematography (Danny Grunes), musical composition (Daniel Wohl), and music supervision (Jennifer Lanchart and Jody Friedman), as well as consideration for sound mixing and editing.
The Emmy pitch makes note that the Neville documentary has been honored — along with The Other Side of the Wind we should add — by The National Board of Review and was an official entry at the Venice, Telluride and New York film festivals last year. It made its Netflix debut on November 2, 2018.
Netflix’s campaign quotes favorable reviews from The Hollywood Reporter, Los Angeles Times, Playlist and The Wrap.
The streaming service will reportedly push all of it nominees in a freebie magazine, tentatively titled Wide, which will be published in June.
IndieWire has already predicted They’ll Love Me When I’m Dead will make the list of Emmy nominees.
Nominees for the 71st annual Emmy Awards will be revealed by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences on July 16, 2019.
The Emmy Awards will be presented on September 22, 2019.
