Several New Jersey institutions around Grovers Mill are organizing War of the Worlds themed events under a common umbrella entitled “Martian Weekend.”
The Mercury Theatre on the Air thrust Grovers Mill and the surrounding area into the national spotlight as the supposed landing site of a Martian invasion during the War of the Worlds radio broadcast on October 30, 1938. Grovers Mill is an unincorporated community located within West Windsor, New Jersey.
Events begins with a Radio Reenactment at Grover’s Mill Coffee on Friday, October 24; continuing with a Trunk-or-Treat on Saturday, October 25; and concluding on Sunday, October 26, with the new play They Came from the Air, produced by West Windsor Arts in partnership with the Historical Society of West Windsor and author A. Brad Schwartz (Broadcast Hysteria). In between these events, there will be a Martian Bike Ride and demonstrations by ham radio operators.
Information on all of the events can be found at MartianWeekend.Weebly.com
The organizing partners for the weekend events are West Windsor Township, Grover’s Mills Coffee, Historical Society of West Windsor, Delaware Valley Radio Association, West Windsor Bicycle and Pedestrian Alliance, West Windsor Arts.
