No news is not necessarily good news

It’s odd to write about something NOT happening, but The Other Side of the Wind saga has never been normal.

Ever since the posthumous release of the Orson Welles-directed film by Netflix in November 2018, speculation has been rife that a Blu-ray loaded with extras would be in the offing. With prestige Netflix titles like The Irishman, Roma and The Power of the Dog given a physical release by the Criterion Collection, it seemed logical The Other Side of the Wind  would also be released by that respected label.

That has not happened.

Posts appear on online forums or on social media from “insiders” saying a Blu-ray release is imminent.  After four years, Wellesnet is skeptical of these so-called insiders.

Criterion, which is famously secretive about its upcoming releases, has not responded to recent questions about The Other Side of the Wind.

A spokesman for the producers of The Other Side of the Wind said they were unaware of an imminent Blu-ray release, and noted the decision rests with Netflix. The streaming giant has promised to keep Wellesnet in the loop if a Blu-ray is released.

Meanwhile, video pirates are selling handsomely packaged bootleg all-region Blu-ray discs, ranging in cost from $9.99 for a no-frills edition of The Other Side of the Wind to a deluxe package for $24.99 that includes the trailer, the documentary short A Final Cut for Orson and the film’s trailer.
