Interviews with Orson Welles’ longtime love and collaborator Oja Kodar are rare to come by, but the Hungarian website mozinet.hu recently spoke with the Croatian actress-writer.
Sadly, none of the six questions asked of Kodar delved into the status of “The Other Side of the Wind” or any of Welles’ unfinished film projects.
Even with the best online translation tools, a reliable English version is hard to create.
Speaking with mozinet.hu, the 71-year-old Kodar recalled how ideas came quickly to Welles, like a rainfall, but he took time to refine and develop those ideas. She disputed the notion he did not want to complete a film, saying Welles knew how a film would end and had the entire film process completed in his mind.
Welles hungered for the love of the audience, Kodar said. She recalled an incident in Paris when the two were inside a taxi cab at a red light. A man on a bicycle pulled up, spotted Welles, and told him “Falstaff” was great. Welles was moved by the encounter and told Kodar it was rewarding.
