
Woodstcok Celebrates Inc. has unveiled its May lineup to honor the 100th anniversary of Orson Welles’ birth.
The guests will include Welles’ collaborator Oja Kodar, who will speak on May 9 in a presentation hosted by noted film scholar Jonathan Rosenbaum.
Woodstock will kick things off by screening Citizen Kane on May 6, the 100th anniversary of the late filmmaker’s birth.
On May 8, Chuck Workman’s documentary Magician: The Astonishing Life and Work of Orson Welles will be shown. The following day, The Stranger, with its sly references to the Todd School for Boys, will be screened with a talk by Welles scholar James Naremore. Later, Kodar will speak about her years with Welles.
A. Brad Schwartz discusses his new book “Broadcast Hysteria” on May 15 before a stage performance of The War of the Worlds by RG productions. On May 16, a look at Welles’ childhood is planned with author Todd Tarbox, producer Michael Dawson and others. “Rosebud, the Lives of Orson Welles,” a one-man play, will be performed that evening by Erik Van Beuzekom.
On May 22, Welels historian Joseph McBride and Roger Ryan discuss Welles’ ending for The Magnificent Ambersons taken from his notes. Ryan will present his video of the reconstructed ending prior a screening of the film. The festivities conclude on May 23 with a look at the unfinished The Other Side of the Wind, hosted by McBride and author Josh Karp (“Orson Welles’s Last Movie”).
