The Cinematheque in Vancouver is celebrating the centennial of Orson Welles’ birth with a six-week retrospective of the 12 completed feature films he directed.
The festivities kicked off Thursday night with a birthday party and screening of Citizen Kane. The retrospective runs through June 25.
In addition to 12 Welles-directed movies, The Cinematheque will screen Chuck Workman’s Magician: The Astonishing Life & Work of Orson Welles, the documentary It’s All True: Based On An Unfinished Film By Orson Welles, Richard Linklater’s Me and Orson Welles and Norman Foster’s Journey Into Fear.
Vancity Theatre will also present the free events “Fragments and Lost Treasures” (May 31) and “Radio Pictures” (June 7). There will be a panel discussion, “Regarding Citizen Kane,” on May 24 after a screening of that film.
