‘Orson Welles: Banda de um Homem Só,’ to be launched at Brazil festival

one-man-band-bookAdalberto Müller’s book Orson Welles: Banda de um Homem Só (Orson Welles: One Man Band) will have its formal launch on September 19 at the Festival de Brasília de Cinema, in Brazil.

Müller, a professor of Film and Literature Studies at Federal Fluminense University and author of nine previous books, has published papers on Don Quixote and Welles’ work in Mexico.

In Orson Welles: Banda de um Homem Só, Müller examines Welles’ career in magic, radio, theater, television and film with a focus on its relationship with classic literary texts. Unfinished projects such as Heart of Darkness, Don Quixote and The Other Side of the Wind are probed, along with the stage show Moby Dick Rehearsed.

Chapters on It’s All True and Don Quixote are the result of what Müller described as intensive research in archives.

“In the case of Don Quixote, I propose a partial reconstruction of Orson’s mythic adaptation. This research on Quixote is to be published soon in Cinema Journal,” Müller said.

The book, written in Portuguese, is published by Quicksilver Editorial. It is available from online retailers including travessa.com.br and ciadoslivros.com.br

Welles’ eldest daughter, author Chris Welles Feder, says of Orson Welles: Banda de um Homem So, “Adalberto Muller has spent a great deal of time researching on my father’s unfinished Don Quixote, traveling to Paris, Rome and elsewhere to view the surviving prints, and pondering the various alternatives that may make it possible to complete a viewable version of this film. I feel his article makes an important contribution to understanding the history, production and various mishaps along the way that befell what my father liked to call his ‘home movie.'”
