Want a whiff of Orson?
Carine Roitfeld, former editor of Vogue Paris, this week unveiled Carine Roitfeld Parfums, a collection of seven boutique scents, including one named after the late Orson Welles.
“I have so many projects, but the one thing I really like and never did was perfume,” Roitfeld told The Hollywood Reporter, noting that each scent is inspired by a favorite destination.
She named her New York City fragrance Orson, for Welles, who she associates with Manhattan and her memory of the flowers that greeted her when she first entered the Carlyle in the 1980s. The result has been described as a soft, creamy floral fragrance with notes of hawthorn flower, benzoin and tonka bean resin.
“I never met him, but he was an amazing actor and filmmaker and seemed so strong, and to me New York very much represents strength,” Roitfeld said.
Orson can be ordered online at net-a-porter.com/us/en/Shop/Designers/Carine_Roitfeld_Parfums, where a 90ml bottle is priced at $285.
The perfume was unveiled on Monday, May 6, prior the Met Gala. Coincidentally, it would have Welles’ 104th birthday.
Roitfeld’s A-list party guests included Kris Jenner, Gigi Hadid and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, as well as fashion designers Tommy Hilfiger, Peter Dundas and Brian Atwood.
The perfume is not licensed or endorsed by the Estate of Orson Welles.
