The television documentary will be co-produced by ARTE and La Compagnie des Phares et Balises and highlight Welles’ career as both an actor and filmmaker, according to the website realscreen.com.
Orson Welles: Shadows & Light, now in production, will be directed by Elisabeth Kapnist. Her television credits include Chaliapin: The Enchanter, a documentary on acclaimed Russian singer Feodor Chaliapin.
Richard Ellman’s International Producers Group of Tarzana, California, has obtained the U.S. and Canadian distribution rights for Orson Welles: Shadows and Light. Plans call for the documentary to be broadcast and released on home video in May to coincide with the 100th anniversary of Welles’ birth.
