Peter Bogdanovich talked about The Other Side of the Wind in a new interview with France’s Le Monde.
In the nearly five-minute video interview (see below) posted on Le Monde’s website today, Bogdanovich recounted his involvement in the 1970s shoot as an actor and the subsequent efforts to complete the unfinished Orson Welles film. He repeated the often-told story of Welles asking him to finish the movie if he were to die before it was completed.
The video is part of a 10-part series Never On Your Screen
Bogdanovich briefly touched upon the unsuccessful efforts to edit the footage in 1999 and air it on Showtime, adding that the failed attempts were not the fault of the cable TV giant, but complicated questions over rights.
As for the more than year-long delay between producer and co-owner Filip Jan Rymsza and TOSOTW‘s other co-owner, Oja Kodar, Bogdanovich said he was removed from the talks and sounded less-than-optimistic about its immediate fate.
“I am less involved in the day-to-day business,” the filmmaker said. “I am supposed to edit the film… I am supposed to supervise the editing of the film. I keep being told the last few days I have heard ’10 days, maybe two weeks, we should have it all wrapped up.’ I have been hearing that for a long time, but it is possible that one day I will be surprised and they really will have everything wrapped up and we can go to work.”
