Planned book examines Orson Welles TV commercials

Paul MassonRobert Kroll, who spoke at Indiana University’s Orson Welles symposium in 2015, is at work on a book examining Welles’ work as a commercial pitchman.

Under the screen name “cartergold,” Kroll recently established a thread on the Wellesnet Message Board  as he compiles what he hopes will be a comprehensive list of Welles advertisements.

Casual fans know of the Paul Masson wine commercials, but what about Welles’ ads for Eastern Airlines Walt Disney World, Preview subscription TV or Florida Light and Power?

Responses on the Wellesnet Message Board  have turned up some rarities with links to videos on YouTube or Vimeo.

One Wellesnetter went slightly off-topic and uncovered a Beatrice Welles TV commercial for a Las Vegas auto dealership (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4g0cyCqez4) from 1989 or 1990.

Take the time and check out the thread at wellesnet.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?f=56&t=2724 and post your suggestions, or contact Robert Kroll  directly by email at bob.kroll@gmail.com
