Filmmakers are attempting to raise funds to shoot The Broadcast, a 12-minute short loosely based on Orson Welles’ The War of the Worlds broadcast.

Producer Stephanie Marin describes the plot: “The story takes place in 1938 and follows a young man racing home to save his family after hearing Orson Welles’ reading of War of the Worlds on the radio. The director’s take is that once he arrives as his house, the aliens are attacking his family. He tries to protect his mother and younger sister who he finds hiding in a closet. As his brother runs inside, he is sucked out of the door by the light, and shortly thereafter, his mother and sister are both taken as well. As he runs out to his car in an attempt to escape, he falls and hits his head. While he is lying on the ground the screen fades as we hear the original broadcast tell us that it is a Halloweeen special and not real.”

General Hospital’s Daniel Marin wrote and will direct the film

Producers are seeking to raise $40,000 by April 4. Donations may be made via http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/the-broadcast–3/x/6694062
