The documentary created by producer Filip Jan Rymsza and editor Bob Murawski from footage Orson Welles shot in 1970 will be screened at the Melbourne International Film Festival on August 22 and Jerusalem Film Festival on August 30.
The 130-minute documentary will be shown as part of the Director’s Cut section of the IndieLisboa film festival, which runs August 21 to September 6.
In 2020, fans saw the release of “Hopper/Welles” and Orson Welles’ radio work repurposed in a best-selling hip hop album.
“At Orson’s Fireplace” is an English translation of an article that will appear in the Italian film magazine Cabiria No. 196-197.
Comprised of previously unknown interview footage, “Hopper/Welles” captures a November 1970 conversation shot during “The Other Side of the Wind” between Orson Welles and Easy Rider director Dennis Hopper.
The eight-day film festival, set for October 15-22, is based out of Los Angeles, though it will be held virtually this year because of the pandemic.
Welles scholar Joseph McBride writes, “Kudos to all involved in ‘Hopper/Welles’ for giving us more bounty from the director’s seemingly endless closet of unfinished material. “
“Hopper/Welles” will be shown in the Icons category, which showcases the latest films of contemporary iconic filmmakers from around the world.
