‘Third Man’ getting 4K UHD release in U.S.

Strike up the zither! The Third Man arrives as a 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray steelbook set in the U.S. next month, courtesy of Lionsgate.

It will be available exclusively on Lionsgate’s direct-to-consumer site, Lionsgate Limited, on February 25. It carries a $59.99 suggested list with a pre-order price of $49.99.

Written by Graham Greene, The Third Man stars Joseph Cotten as  Holly Martins, an American writer of Westerns, who arrives in post-war Vienna to visit his old friend Harry Lime (Orson Welles). On arrival, Martins learns that his friend has been killed in a street accident. Further, military police chief Major Calloway (Trevor Howard)  informs him that Lime was a black marketer wanted by the police.  Alida Valli and Bernard Lee co-star. Released in 1949, the film was honored with an Academy Award, British Film Academy Award and the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival.

The release will include steelbook cover art by William Walker. Bonus features include:
